  • HISTORY ASPECTS:The Lippisch P.13a was a German experimental delta-winged fighter aircraft developed during World War II. It was designed by Alexander Lippisch, who was a leading exponent of delta-winged aircraft at the time. The P.13a was intended to be a high-speed interceptor with a top speed of over 1,000 km/h (620 mph).The P.13a was constructed largely of wood and featured an unconventional delta-wing design with a single jet engine mounted in the rear of the aircraft. The wings had a 60-degree sweep and no horizontal stabilizers or elevators. Instead, the aircraft used wingtip ailerons for control.The project was cancelled by the German authorities before any prototypes were completed, and the P.13a never saw combat.
